Northern California Coast

I've been meaning to get to the coast with my D300 for some time but in the summer here the coast is often fogged in.

So when I saw that the skies were clear over labor day weekend I decided it was time!  So off to the coast I went - D300 in hand.

I didn't bring all my lenses with me because I figured it might be too dusty to change lenses. I was right! So I put on my 17-55 2.8 and left the others at home.  Good thing too because there was to be no lens changing this day!

When I first bought my camera I though I would want lenses with some zoom in them!  But I also read on flickr that many landscape photographers use wide angle lenses.

I didn't have my 14mm on the camera this day because I figured I may want to take some photos that were not wide.  As it turned out I pretty much left my 17-55 set to 17mm anyway.  Go figure!

The waves were coming in pretty good.  When they did, this whole area was pretty much covered with water.

On this one beach there was a whole section right near the water that was covered with small rocks & pebbles instead of sand and no one had walked here.

This one you really have to see full-size! Click on it, select all sizes once you are on the flickr photo page, then original.

It's strange how most people just stick to the part of the beaches that are right off the parking lot when just a little hiking would get you some privacy!

On this one beach there were rock formations all over the place that looked like they came straight out of the movie - Alien!

Photographing breaking waves straigh on is definitely hit or miss.

Photographing the waves coming in with an ultra wide angle lens means you have to shoot and run unless you want to get wet.

Beautiful pictures. Quite a contrast from the ones I am watching on TV about New Orleans.
