SDFORUM/ASTIA PRESENT: Clean Tech Breakfast Series 6
"Next Generation Biofuel Feedstock"
October 21, 2008
8:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m.
Series Description: SDForum, in conjunction with Astia, has launched its third consecutive 2008 Clean Tech Breakfast Series. You are invited to attend the sixth breakfast: "Next Generation Biofuel Feedstock." We are grateful for the support of the sponsors for series, Nixon Peabody and Moss Adams.
Topic Description: Algae is regarded as ideal for large scale energy production such as ethanol and bio diesel. It has the potential to grow 10-100 times more energy per acre than land crops and does not adversely impact food production. To date, it has attracted about 20+ companies into different areas of opportunity. However, many challenges exist to commercialization, including production rates, yield, processing and scaling. There are several different approaches being pursued to address these issues, such as genetic engineering, closed system bioreactors and different algae species. The panelists will cover the state of technology and commercialization, their recommended solutions to these issues, and alternatives to algae in the biofuels sector.
